This 2-hour interactive online course relates basic principles of environmental design to federal, state, and local regulations for environmental protection. It includes a review of introductory level design principles and an overview of how those principles relate to the environmental laws and regulatory agencies that now have control over project design.
There will be a multiple-choice quiz at the end of this course. You must have Flash Player Version 7 or higher to view some parts of this course. Emphasis is placed on the importance of understanding the regulatory as well as the physical context of a design project site. Students will gain a foundation of what is expected in the design of environmentally sensitive project sites and be introduced to resource agencies and web sites that may be useful for finding specific answers on their own future projects. Course materials include content, suggested reading, and Internet site searches from links provided by the instructor.
This course is designed to be appropriate as both an introductory course for entry-level design professionals and as a review/update for those architects, engineers, planners and landscape architects whose careers have not included projects in highly regulated environments.
